The European Commission is holding a series of technical workshops with gatekeepers and stakeholders to gather input on specific compliance measures under the Digital Markets Act (DMA). These sessions aim to ensure that designated gatekeepers, large digital platforms offering core platform services, implement the DMA’s obligations effectively.
The DMA is a landmark EU regulation designed to ensure fair and open digital markets. It sets out clear and objective criteria to identify gatekeepers, large online platforms providing core services such as search engines, app stores, and messaging services. Once designated, gatekeepers must comply with a series of obligations and prohibitions that govern their daily operations. These include requirements to allow interoperability, data access, and advertising transparency, as well as restrictions on self-preferencing, anti-steering practices, and data tracking without consent.
The DMA was proposed by the European Commission in December 2020, adopted in September 2022, and became applicable on May 2, 2023. It complements, but does not replace, existing EU competition rules. The Commission is now responsible for its enforcement, including through market investigations and penalties in cases of non-compliance. Learn more about the DMA here.
