Devolved Digest – Issue 3: Education and Funding

Introducing Devolved Digest – a series that will delve into the nuances in policy across devolved regions of the United Kingdom.

This edition of the Devolved Digest explores the issues of education, funding, and pupil performance. Schooling in the UK has drastically suffered due to the COVID-19 pandemic but analysis shows that students in Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland are reaching lower-levels of attainment due to lack of funding, weak curriculums, and staff shortages.

Legislative efforts to respond to these struggles have been difficult as each nation have prioritised different parameters. This report examines the varied responses of each Devolved Government to tackle this problem while also considering the framework established by UK-wide legislation.
