Welcome to Devolved Digest, a series that delves into the nuances in policy across the devolved regions of the United Kingdom.
This edition of Devolved Digest explores how each devolved government has chosen to address obesity via various frameworks, localised interventions, and the integration of physical activity strategies within the education system. It critically evaluates how each respective government has utilised its given devolved powers to address this issue and whether there are the resources or political will to execute these strategies effectively.
As is explored in this report, this has materialised in Scotland’s goal to halve childhood obesity by 2030, Northern Ireland’s focus on early years programmes and localised support services, and Wales’ integrated planning under the Well-being of Future Generations Act.
