Covid-19 has claimed the lives of approximately 160,000 people in France since it emerged in early 2020, with more than 38 million confirmed cases, according to the World Health Organisation. That comes despite emergency government measures on a scale not seen in peacetime, including nationwide lockdowns to prevent the spread of the virus, delivery of 157 million Covid vaccine doses, and enormous financial packages to counter the economic fallout.
