This report argues for a “radical change” which will have to be urgent and concrete. To this end, it identifies three main areas for action to reignite sustainable growth:
- closing the innovation gap with the US and China, especially in advanced technologies.
- coming up with a joint plan for decarbonisation and competitiveness.
- increasing security and reducing dependencies.
Welcoming the report at a joint press conference, European Commission’s President Ursula von der Leyen noted that her exchanges with Mr Draghi had already enriched her Political Guidelines and that the findings of the report “will continue […] to inspire our work for the months and years to come”. The findings of the report are expected to play a role, in particular, in the development of the new Clean Industrial Deal for competitive industries and quality jobs, which is foreseen to be presented in the first 100 days of the new Commission mandate.
