The European Health Data Space

On May 3, the European Commission published its plans for the European Health Data Space (EHDS), a new framework designed to make it easier for individuals, medics, researchers, and regulators to access and use information about the health of millions of citizens across the European Union. The network, which will require actions at EU and national level, aims to create a genuine single market for electronic health record systems – a key pillar of the bloc’s European Health Union – in accordance with the EU’s high data protection standards.

This Dods Political Intelligence report written by our EU political monitoring team provides a brief outline of the Commission’s EHDS plan and compiles some of the key political and stakeholder views that were set out ahead of its publication.
