Sweden holds the rotating presidency of the Council of the European Union from January 1 to July 1, 2023. The new presidency comes at a time of multiple domestic and external challenges for the EU, not least managing the impact of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Sweden, which voted in a right-wing coalition government in September, has set out the following four priorities, which it says reflect positions the country has traditionally advocated in the EU and also respond to the economic and geopolitical challenges the bloc is facing:
- Security
- Competitiveness
- The green transition
- Democratic values and the rule of law
This Dods Political Intelligence report outlines the priorities of the new presidency, along with key dates and contact details.
